Did you miss February 14,Baden Powell 2021 Grace United Worship Service?Forward to a friend!
Did you miss the Ash Wednesday service or wish to forward it to a friend.
As our Lent journey begins, I invite you to consider what is meaningful and helpful in your Lent journey. I will send out some different ideas throughout Lent for you to ponder. You should have received a Lent letter from me with a link to a gratitude activity inviting you to create your own colouring mandala as you write a name in each day. I also sent a weekly focus. It was with Sheila’s Friday worship reminder and the annual report. Please plan to join the worship livestream tomorrow at 9 and 11, and next week for the annual meeting and worship in a combined livestream service at 9:00 A.M.
Here’s another idea for a Lent practice:
Here’s what you need to get started:
3) Colored markers or colored pencils or colored gel pens
4) A table or clipboard or book to put your paper on.
Here's how to get started
1) Write your name for God on a piece of paper. Draw a shape around it or just start to doodle. The drawing becomes a prayer space, a small prayer closet.
2) Add marks and shapes. Focus on the name you chose. Ask God to be part of your prayer time with or without words. If words come, pray them; if not, enjoy the silence.
3) Pray for a person, or place, or concerns, write their names on the page. Draw around it. Add color, if you want. Keep drawing as you release the person into God’s care.
4) Add other people, places, etc. to your drawing. Think of each stroke of your pen as a prayer for them. Take a breath or say “Amen” between each.
Make a different one each day, or once a week or whenever it feels like a new and different way to pray that you want to try.
It is the fourth day of Lent. Here are some ideas from a giving calendar from my colleague Joanna, at Peace Mennonite Church. Joanna and I have been in a small cohort together, in a faith formation program I have been doing since last February.
“Count Your Blessings” calendar of giving:
You may wish to make a financial “giving” over Lent. Or you may want to lift up prayers, thanksgiving and awareness as you read these.
February 17 In a world where half the people go to bed hungry, put 2 cents in your bag for every pound of meat in your refrigerator and freezer.
February 18 Millions of people walk through life with no shoes, add 1 cent for each shoe you have in your closet.
February 19 During Lent we draw near to Christ and his story. Add 10 cents for each Bible in your home.
February 20 - Many children do not receive the medical care they need to thrive. Contribute 5 cents for each growing healthy child in your life.
