Not since 1985 has Grace United Church in Peterborough welcomed a new minister so the arrival of Rev. Andrew Macpherson on July 1 will be a special occasion indeed.  On the heels of receiving the key to his new office, Andrew will celebrate his 50th birthday on the front lawn of the church on Thursday, July 7, with all welcome to come and say hello.
Andrew is passionate about intercultural ministry, travel and people.  He paired his Masters degree in Divinity at the University of Toronto’s Emmanuel College with a Masters in Pastoral Care in Muslim Studies, along with certification in the Buddhist Mindfulness Program.
Eager to discover the richness of the diversity of Peterborough’s people and culture, Andrew is settling in downtown, sampling the variety of cuisine – add food to Andrew’s list of passions – and honing his linguistic skills, practicing his Arabic, Spanish and Farsi.
Born in India, raised in Woodstock, Ontario, and steeped in the experiences and cultures that he has absorbed as an inquisitive world traveller, Andrew brings a fresh, new perspective to Grace United Church, to the south-end neighbourhood and to the Peterborough area.
To welcome Andrew and to celebrate his birthday, a drop-in barbeque, that will include Halal and Kosher selections, will be held 4:30-7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, at Grace United, Monaghan Road at Howden Street, across from Kenner Collegiate.  All are welcome.
