Grace United Church
The Spiritual Commitment

When a couple comes to be married in the church, it means that they desire the blessing of God on their marriage, and that they would like to begin their life together in the presence of God.  Uniting in marriage is not only seen as a private act of commitment, but also before society and before God.

The marriage service centres around the two of you and your vows of love and loyalty given to one another; vows which you will make before God and God's people.  We have prepared a booklet, 'Our Marriage Book', which will help you in the planning and the preparation of your service, working alongside the Minister.  The booklet is designed as a guide, to suggest options and give you ideas so that the service will reflect your unique individuality and be meaningful for you both on your important and happy day.  It should also help you to keep in mind that the service is a service of worship, and that all that is done and said, played or sung, should be an offering of praise to God and in keeping with the Christian faith.

Once your wedding has been booked, we can e-mail you 'Our Marriage Book'.  It gives you, first, an outline of the parts of the service; then explains each part; and provides a number of options for you to choose from or adapt.  Once you have worked through the booklet, you'll be ready to meet with the Minister to make the final plans for your service.  Suggestions you may have that are not found in the booklet but that are in keeping with the Christian concept of marriage will be welcomed.
